Due to the timing of when we need to have our newsletter submitted to the printers, I was unable to have the recap of our Annual Meeting in last month’s newsletter. So I apologize for this update getting to you several weeks after the meeting, but I still wanted to let everyone know what went on.
Our Annual Meeting this year was held on March 19th and we appreciate all those who were able to attend. We had about 300 total people in attendance including 214 members attending in person with 5 more represented by proxy. We also continued the option of letting members vote in the office the day of the Annual Meeting. This has been well received the last four years as it gives members another option if they are unable to be at the meeting that evening.
We would like to thank the Perkins County Youth Development Club for providing the meal again this year. We appreciate being able to work with another organization that is also focused on investing in our community, as any proceeds that they get from providing meals is reinvested in youth organizations and scholarships.
James Dukesherer was our keynote speaker for the evening. He is the Director of Government Relations for the Nebraska Rural Electric Association. James gave an overview of how the NREA works on our behalf to inform legislators about issues that affect public power and gave an update on legislation that was being considered in this session.
There were three Director positions up for election this year in Districts 2, 4 and 7. Dale Schroeder of Paxton has represented District 2 for the past six years. However, Dale’s duties as a Keith County Commissioner and other obligations made it difficult to dedicate the time he would like to all those responsibilities. Dale decided not to run again but we appreciate the years that Dale spent on our Board. In his place, Brent Nelson of Roscoe was elected to represent District 2. Vance McCoy (District 4) and Dennis Hutt (District 7) were reelected to the Board.
At the end of the evening, 50 door prizes were handed out to those in attendance. In addition, we had cash drawings of $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000 from the entire membership, but you had to be present to win. As none of those three names drawn were in attendance, we had one final drawing for $500 from those in attendance and Loy and Jean Bauman of Lemoyne were the winners. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks again for attending our Annual Meeting!
